On stage at Ciro’s
Why was she at Ciro’s?
She went with Officer Hannon and Captain Pete Sutton.
“Did anyone sit with them at the club?”
“Jim Byron from Ciro’s.” The deputy “pouted” that neither men bothered to introduce her to the club’s publicist. It was as if she were invisible, or the three men had no manners. She was not included in the conversation. She said not a word, just watched the show.
Who paid her cover charge of $1.50?
Hover paid everyone’s cover charge and drinks.
Did she notice the celebrities in the room?
No. She didn’t stare or look for any. She watched the stage. She added she “only took one sip from her drink.” It had been her first time at Ciro’s.
The other officers in their complaint had stated that Lili’s maid had stood between Lili and the audience. Hunter said Lili emerged from the tub without anything on while the maid was standing “on far side” of the tub, leaving Lili’s nudity exposed for all.
“But Captain Walker had testified that the maid held a towel in front of Lili and the audience?”
Hunter remained firm that “there wasn’t much you couldn’t see.”
“As Lili got down to bare essentials was it a little too bare for public taste?” Giesler asked.
The deputy admitted Lili never took off her bra and panties. But she could see the “outline” of Lili’s “private parts” even though Hunter sat thirty-five feet away. Lili gritted her teeth. No one liked having their “private parts” discussed.
Giesler approached. Did the deputy actually see the “outline” or was she “influenced by knowledge they were there?”
Hunter repeated that “there wasn’t much you couldn’t see.”
Giesler turned to the jury. He presented his claim that the officers went to the nightclub with the intention of arresting his client. Someone had decided, before she poked one painted toenail into her bathtub, that her performance was going to be indecent.
Giesler got Hunter to admit she had been taken that night on “special assignment” and that the table had been reserved ahead of time. She admitted she was from the transportation department. A little out of her league policing vice on Sunset Boulevard.
Next the prosecution called Captain Walker “Tex” Hannon of the antivice squad division of the Hollywood Sherriff’s Department.
Though Lili’s act had lasted less than fifteen minutes, the long-winded captain took a bloated twenty-five minutes to describe how Lili “bumped” and grinded.”544 Something Lili had a reputation for not doing.
The officer stubbornly described Lili’s performance as being an “indecent exposure” of herself. Miss St. Cyr had “caressed her body while looking at a man’s picture and slid her hands over her thighs. Then she gave a couple of Mae West wiggles. She unzipped her dress to below her buttocks. Her rear was exposed. You could see through her black panties.” The captain continued. “She held her dress in front of her and walked sideways, leaving her rear exposed. She stripped to a flesh-colored net bra and panties.” Hannon pointed to the offending articles (exhibits A and B) on Judge Draeger’s desk.
